In August 2024, the government of former Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, was ousted from power after a mass student movement. Hasina fled to India and has been living in exile since. This has led to tensions between India and Bangladesh. There's another issue that has added to these tensions- reports of atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is now gearing up for its parliamentary election on 12 February- its first since Hasina was overthrown.
