Hindu Gold Trader Injured in Attack, Bag Snatched in Manikganj
[BDnews24.com] A Hindu gold trader was attacked, and his bag was snatched in Harirampur, Manikganj.
The attack took place at around 8:30 pm on Thursday in Jatrapur village, according to Sheikh Faruk, a Sub-Inspector (SI) of Harirampur Police Station.
Local residents rescued the injured gold trader, Monoranjan Karmakar, who was covered in blood, and took him to the Harirampur Upazila Health Complex.
After receiving initial treatment there, he was referred to Manikganj Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care.
Russel Mia, a local resident and college teacher, said that Monoranjan Karmakar was returning home after closing his shop. When he reached the area in front of the house of Nur Alam Chacha in Jatrapur village, unidentified assailants attacked him and snatched his bag.
He said, "Patches of blood were found on the road, along with a piece of firewood lying nearby. It was initially unclear whether he had been struck with a heavy object or attacked with a sharp weapon."
Asim Sarkar, a medical officer at Harirampur Upazila Health Complex, said that Monoranjan Karmakar had sustained injuries to his head. He had lost a significant amount of blood, and several stitches were required to close his wounds.
He added that, considering the patient's physical condition, a CT scan had been recommended. He was subsequently referred to Manikganj Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
SI Sheikh Faruk said, "The bag snatched from Monoranjan Karmakar did not contain any gold. A dried branch of a coconut tree was recovered from the scene. The incident is currently under investigation."
Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police in Manikganj, said that legal action would be taken in connection with the incident.
