US envoy visits historic Kantajew Temple in Dinajpur

Christensen, accompanied by his wife Diane Dow, visited the historic Kantajew Temple in Kaharole upazila in the morning. The 18th-century archaeological site, renowned for its intricate terracotta artwork and distinctive architectural style, is one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated historical monuments. Upon his arrival at the temple premises, members of the indigenous community welcomed the ambassador with traditional dance performances and floral tributes. Christensen later lit a ceremonial lamp and joined an arati, a traditional Hindu worship ritual. During his visit, the ambassador toured different sections of the terracotta-rich temple and learned about its history, architecture, and cultural significance. He also praised the temple’s intricate artistic details and craftsmanship. Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Islam, Police Superintendent Zedan Al Musa, Department of Archaeology Regional Director Dr. Ahmed Abdullah, and Raj Debottor Estate Agent Ranjit Singh, among others, were present during the visit. According to local Hindu community members, gestures such as this carry weight far beyond the temple grounds. They strengthen the confidence of Hindu families that their faith, culture, and heritage are valued; they encourage greater social harmony between communities; and they send a hopeful signal that the international community stands with Bangladesh's minorities.
