Two Hindu youths sued over blasphemy allegation, angry mob attacks houses of the accused

The case was filed by Sub-Inspector Md. Abdul Mannan of Kalmakanda Police Station, who lodged the First Information Report (FIR) as the complainant. The accused have been identified as Papon Sarker, 28, son of the late Tapan Sarker of Charulia village in Pogla union, and Sagor Sarker, 26, son of Samiran Sarker from the same union's former Charulia village. SI Abdul Mannan confirmed the development on Sunday night (July 26). According to the FIR, the incident occurred around noon on July 25, when the two accused allegedly used their personal Facebook accounts to spread content described by police as inciting religious hatred and animosity. The first accused, Papon Sarker, is said to have posted a status from his account "Papon Sarker MP" calling for the elimination of what he termed "jihadists and conspirators" in India in a manner harsh enough that they would never again dare to stand up, referencing a religious deity by name, and suggesting cremation rather than burial. Police say the post caused serious offense to Muslim religious sentiment and constituted incitement to religious hatred. The second accused, Sagor Sarker, is alleged to have commented on Papon Sarker's post from his own account, "Sagor sarker," making a remark that police say mocked the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) miracles and the historic Battle of Uhud, thereby spreading religiously inflammatory content. In the FIR, SI Mannan further stated that as the posts and comments circulated on social media, they triggered intense public anger, religious animosity, and tension in the local area. He noted that the accused's actions constitute an offense under Section 26(1) of the Cyber Security Act, 2026, punishable under Section 26(2) of the same law. Police at Kalmakanda Police Station said the FIR has been accepted and legal proceedings against the accused are now underway. Mob Attacks Homes of the Accused Following the spread of the allegations, a group of local residents attacked and vandalized the homes of the two accused men on Sunday evening. Police rushed to the scene upon receiving reports and brought the situation under control. A relative of one of the victims said, "We want justice for whatever wrong was done—the person responsible should be punished. But why were our homes attacked and vandalized? We fled to save our lives. When we returned after the attackers left, we found our homes ransacked. We are living in fear now." Officer-in-Charge of Kalmakanda Police Station, Mostafizur Rahman, said, "An angry mob attacked and vandalized the homes of the accused. Police reached the spot quickly and brought the situation under control. Law and order in the area is currently normal, and police remain on alert to prevent any further untoward incidents."
