Accusation of insulting Islam in Jhenaidah, Hindu man detained
The Dhaka Diary | Police have detained a Hindu man named Prashanta Das, 45, in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah on allegations of making offensive remarks about Islam. Prashanta Das is the son of Nani Gopal Das from College Para in the town.
According to local sources, on Sunday, June 28, around 2:00 p.m., several people were sitting and discussing different religions in front of Subodh Debnath’s shop on Government Mahtab Uddin College Road in Kaliganj town. At that time, Prashanta allegedly used abusive language about Islam.
When the matter became known, police from Kaliganj Police Station took him into custody.
Local businessmen Ershad and Ariz said that while a group was talking about different religions together, Prashanta made offensive comments about Islam.
Officer-in-Charge Jalal Hossain of Kaliganj Police Station told the media that after a video surfaced showing insulting remarks about Islam, the man was taken into custody. He said legal action will be taken if the allegation is proven in the investigation.
