Young Hindu Man Arrested in Narayanganj on Charges of Religious Defamation
Desk Report | The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a man from the Araihazar police station area in Narayanganj on charges of religious defamation in Faridpur. This information was disclosed in a press release by RAB on Friday (17th April).
According to the press release, the arrested individual, Pradip Pal (40), created multiple fake Facebook and other social media accounts using the name and photo of a woman from the Alfadanga police station area in Faridpur. He also hacked accounts and repeatedly posted obscene, defamatory, and religiously offensive images and texts. He is also accused of demanding money (extortion) from the victim.
In connection with this incident, the victim woman filed a case on 25 March at Alfadanga Police Station in Faridpur district. The case is currently under investigation by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Faridpur.
RAB further stated that on 14 April, a Facebook account using the name and photo of Shankar Kumar Pal (33), a resident of Jatigram area in Alfadanga police station, Faridpur, posted content that defamed the Holy Quran. This hurt the religious sentiments of local people and created a tense situation in the area. Preliminary interrogation has revealed Pradip Pal’s involvement in these incidents.
Based on a requisition letter sent by the investigating officer of the case, RAB arrested the accused Pradip Pal from the Araihazar area on Friday morning. He has been handed over to the relevant police station for further legal action.
